Buying large amounts of treated mineral water in plastic bottles is common practice at most hotels and campsites. Where possible we encourage our guests to use the pod taps provided to fill up with clean, fresh water to help us reduce the transport, resources and waste involved with buying bottled water.
We recognise that waste is one of our largest environmental impacts and we are always thinking of ways to reduce, reuse and recycle whilst maintaining high standards of quality. We have mixed recycling bins at the site for plastic bottles, paper, card and cans, as well as separate glass recycling.
We provide real crockery and cutlery so that our guests don’t have to bring their own or use plastic and paper versions.
All of our pods now have refillable soap dispensers to avoid the use of single plastic versions.
All dirty bedding, at the end of each guests stay, is requested to be put into a reusable laundry bag used by our cleaning staff.
Our pods are all south facing in Lagavulin Bay, so get plenty of sunlight during the day. Each of the pods are also well insulated meaning that they become very warm and cosy on their own without the need of heating. Small electric heaters are provided in our pods for those colder times, but are mostly unnecessary in the spring, summer, autumn months.
We are situated on the ‘Three Distilleries Pathway’. This path, used by cyclists and pedestrians, connects the nearby village of Port Ellen to the Distilleries Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. This helps all of our guests get to these areas in an environmentally friendly way, without the need to use vehicles. (It is also handy when visiting the distilleries and you may have had a dram too many!)
Here at Islay Glamping Pods we are always striving to improve on our sustainability and we are always looking for opportunities to become more carbon neutral.
